Chhattisgarh Diary

A variety of faces, noises, sounds and odours engulfed me as I began my train journey...
Saw this family waiting for their train in the scorching heat on the platform. Picked up my brushes as my train had paused as well!
One of the most intricate and beautiful form of art I have seen so far- Bastar Art. It is Chattisgarh's oldest tribal craft- they make sculptures ranging from scales of tiny nail size to larger than human size. I happened to see and sketch them at a hotel we had stayed in between.

An actual Bastar art sculpture- the themes of these scultures are their own routines- lifestyles- their markets, how they celebrate festivals etc.

We visited the Jindal Steel Plant. It was an incredible experience to actually watch the manufacturing processes- diagrams of which I had seen in my school textbooks!
Even more refreshing was the HUGE Indian Flag hoisted at the entrance of the Plant which made me feel so proud to be an Indian...
This is me after the workshop! The workshops were fun- yes but it sure became a 'little' tiring when hundred kids are blowing their hand-made straw whistles and screaming at the top of their voices!!
Met this grandpa on my way back. He wasn't sure what I was doing until I showed him my sketch. After that, he couldn't stop smiling!
